Today, the Slovak Parliament voted to ban surrogacy in its Constitution, \u00a0a landmark step in the global fight against the commodification of women and children (see the text HERE<\/u><\/a>).<\/p>\n

The surrogacy industry, valued at USD 27.9 billion in 2025 and projected to reach over USD 200 billion by 2034 (Global Market Insights), poses growing risks of exploitation. Slovakia has chosen to take a firm stand, affirming that women\u2019s bodies and children\u2019s lives cannot be subject to contracts or transactions.<\/p>\n

Over the past days in Bratislava, Olivia Maurel, spokesperson of the Casablanca Declaration and herself born via surrogacy, met with parliamentarians, the Parliamentary Health Committee, a Member of the European Parliament, religious leaders, academics, students, and journalists. She also took part in a 50-minute national TV debate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

At the announcement of the vote, Olivia Maurel declared:<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a historic day. Slovakia has sent a clear message to the world: women\u2019s bodies and children\u2019s lives are not for sale. Our fight continues, country by country, until surrogacy is universally abolished.\u201d<\/p>\n

This breakthrough comes just weeks after the United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls called for an international treaty banning surrogacy in all its forms. The Casablanca Declaration, endorsed by over 150 global experts, urges Slovakia to now take leadership in promoting such a treaty on the international stage.<\/p>\n

Slovakia\u2019s decision strengthens the growing abolitionist momentum, following the path of historic movements that ended slavery and human trafficking.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Une victoire historique pour les femmes et les enfants<\/b><\/p>\n

Aujourd\u2019hui, le Parlement slovaque a vot\u00e9 l\u2019interdiction de la gestation pour autrui (GPA) dans sa Constitution \u2014 une \u00e9tape majeure dans la lutte mondiale contre la marchandisation des femmes et des enfants (voir le texte de la r\u00e9forme ICI<\/u><\/a>).<\/p>\n

L\u2019industrie de la GPA, estim\u00e9e \u00e0 27,9 milliards USD en 2025 et qui pourrait d\u00e9passer 200 milliards USD d\u2019ici 2034 (Global Market Insights), constitue une menace croissante d\u2019exploitation. La Slovaquie a choisi de prendre position fermement en affirmant que le corps des femmes et la vie des enfants ne peuvent faire l\u2019objet d\u2019aucun contrat ni d\u2019aucune transaction.<\/p>\n

Depuis plusieurs jours \u00e0 Bratislava, Olivia Maurel, porte-parole de la D\u00e9claration de Casablanca et elle-m\u00eame n\u00e9e par GPA, a multipli\u00e9 les interventions : rencontres avec des parlementaires et le Comit\u00e9 de la sant\u00e9 du Parlement, \u00e9change avec une d\u00e9put\u00e9e europ\u00e9enne, dialogue avec des responsables religieux, des universitaires, des \u00e9tudiants et des journalistes, ainsi qu\u2019un d\u00e9bat t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9 national de 50 minutes.<\/p>\n

Au moment de l\u2019annonce du vote, Olivia Maurel a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 :<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00ab C\u2019est un jour historique. La Slovaquie envoie un message clair au monde : le corps des femmes et la vie des enfants ne sont pas \u00e0 vendre. Notre combat continue, pays apr\u00e8s pays, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019abolition universelle de la GPA. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Cette avanc\u00e9e intervient quelques semaines seulement apr\u00e8s que la Rapporteuse sp\u00e9ciale de l\u2019ONU sur les violences faites aux femmes et aux filles a appel\u00e9 \u00e0 un trait\u00e9 international interdisant la GPA sous toutes ses formes. La D\u00e9claration de Casablanca, soutenue par plus de 150 experts internationaux, appelle d\u00e9sormais la Slovaquie \u00e0 porter ce combat au niveau international en promouvant un tel trait\u00e9.<\/p>\n

La d\u00e9cision slovaque renforce le nouvel \u00e9lan abolitionniste, dans la lign\u00e9e des grands mouvements historiques qui ont mis fin \u00e0 l\u2019esclavage et \u00e0 la traite humaine.<\/p>\n
