Olivia Maurel<\/strong>, born through surrogacy and spokesperson of the Casablanca Declaration, as well as\u00a0Gloria Ruiz<\/strong>, ex surrogate mother and signatory of the Casablanca Declaration, sent an open letter to the\u00a0Albanian public authorities in an attempt to stop the bill regarding surrogacy.<\/strong>\u00a0The letter was sent through\u00a0Ms Nikolla Lindika<\/strong>, speaker at the Parliament, to the President of Albania,\u00a0Mr Bajman Begaj,<\/strong>\u00a0to the Prime Minister,\u00a0Mr. Edi Rama<\/strong>\u00a0and to the Minister of Health, Ms.\u00a0Albana Ko\u00e7iu.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWe can testimony with our own lives that surrogacy can create strong psychic and psychological traumas\u00a0<\/strong>for the child when he is made aware of the method of conception\u201d and \u201cit is a form of\u00a0abuse on the surrogate mother,<\/strong>\u00a0who also endures medical negligence\u201d, said both women in the letter, which appeals the Albanian Parliament to not let the bill pass.<\/p>\n This law, they say, will have the effect that \u201cthere are even more children removed from their mothers at birth\u201d, even by contract or agreement, with or without financial incentives, \u201cthe effects will be the same\u201d. \u201cAll surrogate-born children are commissioned into being and removed from their mothers at birth<\/strong>\u201d say Olivia and Gloria, and it will not be possible \u201cto force commissioning parents\u201d to inform their children of their origins.<\/p>\n They also reminded that surrogacy \u201cviolates the dignity of women and children\u201d and constitutes a risk for \u201chuman trafficking, exploitation of minors and organ exploitation<\/strong>\u201d as was already defined by the Directive of the European Parliament which includes exploitation of surrogacy as human trafficking.<\/p>\n \u201cWe urge you to reconsider what harm will be done to children and women around the world, should this law pass\u201d, they claimed.<\/p>\n Find the letter\u00a0HERE<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n
