Olivia Maurel<\/strong>, young woman born through surrogate motherhood and spokesperson for the Casablanca Declaration for the universal abolition of surrogate motherhood,\u00a0and\u00a0Bernard\u00a0<\/strong>Garcia, coordinator of the Declaration, are in Croatia to promote the conviction that the abolition of surrogacy is not only necessary but possible, and that States can and must commit themselves to this goal.\u00a0
On Tuesday 27 February, they were received, with\u00a0MP Marijana Petir<\/strong>, by theSecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Andrea Metelko-Zgombi\u0107<\/strong>, the Minister’s adviser Ivan Ma\u0161ina, the head of the analytical sector Antun Buklija\u0161 and the head of the human rights department Marko Pa\u0161kvan.

On Wednesday 28 February, they met the\u00a0Secretary of State for the Family, Margareta Ma\u0111eri\u0107<\/strong>\u00a0before a meeting with the\u00a0Apostolic Nuncio<\/strong>\u00a0in Zagreb and then an evening with\u00a0Croatian students<\/strong>.\u00a0

Thursday 29 February 2024 at 10:00 am (Croatian time), they will address the Croatian Parliament as part of the round-table discussion:<\/strong>

at the invitation of the Chairman of the Croatian Parliament’s Family, Youth and Sports Committee, MP Professor Vesna Vu\u010demilovi\u0107, PhD.

Olivia<\/strong>,\u00a0born through surrogacy and spokesperson for the Casablanca Declaration,<\/strong>\u00a0appeals to politicians:\u00a0
\u00ab\u00a0please don’t be fooled by the adverts that surrogacy agencies post on their websites to make you believe that this is a gift, a blessing.\u00a0\u00bb
Whatever the terms, whether surrogacy is paid or unpaid, \u00ab\u00a0there is ALWAYS the contract in which the little human being is treated as a product to be handed over when finished. For me, that was the first thing that really hurt to know that I’d been exchanged for a cheque.\u00a0\u00bb
Olivia warns of the wound of abandonment to which separation from the birth mother exposes the child: \u00ab\u00a0Whether the child is biologically linked to the surrogate mother or not, believe me, it doesn’t matter. On the day when the baby is supposed to come into the world to meet its mother, it is ripped away from her and placed in the arms of complete strangers. These babies will feel an emptiness throughout their lives, the emptiness of having lost their mother, and let me tell you that unfortunately, this abyss can never be filled by personal experience.I’m actually 32 years old, and all my life I’ve tried to fill this void: with drugs, alcohol, even buying a ton of animals, naively thinking that this would close this wound so deep that I felt like I was bleeding. It took me 32 years to understand and stop trying to fill that void with the help of my psychologist and psychiatrist\u00a0\u00bb.

Olivia and Bernard will also be announcing the International Conference for the Universal Abolition of Surrogate Motherhood, to be held in Rome on 5 and 6 April.<\/strong>

Quelles que soient les modalit\u00e9s, que la GPA soit r\u00e9mun\u00e9r\u00e9e ou non, \u00ab il y a TOUJOURS le contrat dans lequel le petit \u00eatre humain est trait\u00e9 comme un produit \u00e0 remettre une fois termin\u00e9. Pour moi, c’est la premi\u00e8re chose qui m’a vraiment bless\u00e9 de savoir qu’on m’a \u00e9chang\u00e9e contre un ch\u00e8que.\u00bb
Olivia alerte sur la blessure d\u2019abandon \u00e0 laquelle la s\u00e9paration de sa m\u00e8re de naissance expose l\u2019enfant : \u00ab Que l’enfant soit li\u00e9 biologiquement \u00e0 sa m\u00e8re porteuse ou non, croyez-moi, cela n’a pas d’importance. Le jour o\u00f9 b\u00e9b\u00e9 devrait venir au monde pour rencontrer sa m\u00e8re, b\u00e9b\u00e9 lui est arrach\u00e9 pour \u00eatre plac\u00e9 dans les bras de parfaits inconnus. Ces b\u00e9b\u00e9s ressentiront un vide au cours de leur vie, le vide d\u2019avoir perdu leur m\u00e8re, et laissez-moi vous dire que malheureusement, cet ab\u00eeme ne pourra jamais \u00eatre combl\u00e9 par une exp\u00e9rience personnelle. J’ai en fait 32 ans, et toute ma vie j’ai essay\u00e9 de combler ce vide : par la drogue, l’alcool, m\u00eame en achetant une tonne d’animaux en pensant na\u00efvement que cela refermerait cette blessure si profonde que j’avais l’impression d’\u00eatre saigner. Il m’a fallu 32 ans pour comprendre et arr\u00eater d’essayer de combler ce vide avec l’aide de mon psychologue et de mon psychiatre \u00bb.
